His incredible work earned him the moniker of ‘Bhoodan Subbaaro’.
President of the Gramdhan Nirman Samiti, G. V. Subba Rao has been involved in Gandhian activities since his childhood. He has been the recipient of the Award for Outstanding Contribution in the field of Constructive Work in 2013.As a student leader, Mr Subba Rao was very active in encouraging students to take up social work, based on the ideologies of Gandhiji and Acharya Vinoba Bhave.

As part of the Bhoodan Movement of Vinoba Bhave, in 1954, Mr Subba Rao was asked by the Hyderabad State Bhoodan Yagna Samiti to work in the Nagarkurnool area of Mahabubnagar District, collecting Bhoodan (land donations) from landlords and distributing them to landless people in the same village.
Mr Subba Rao collected 20,000 acres in Mahabubnagar and 12,000 acres of land in Hyderabad. He met every donor and distributed land according to the donor’s selection and personally arranged the land transfer patta from the government to the receiver of the donation.
